CSBA with around 120 members is Canada's national association for our swine breeding industry. Our members are largely swine breeders, ranging from single proprietors and partnerships, corporate farm ownerships, to large breeding companies, many of whom have interests outside of Canada. This diversity of membership provides the genetic base for most of the swine genetics used in Canada.

The CSBA is responsible for keeping the database for the pedigree lineage of their respective breeds. Incorporations of breed associations are done under the rules of the Animal Pedigree Act, a law of the Parliament of Canada which sets certain standards for registration eligibility and procedures. This also contributes to the value of the Canadian pedigree as a trusted record of an animal's lineage.

Aside from maintaining the herd registry, the CSBA also provides a forum for concerted promotion for and by its members, carries swine breeder points of view on issues to governments and private industry partners, promotes new technology to the industry, and assists in export development for the industry.
